The Box Was Clearly Too Small. The Grey Persian Disagreed.
Not a single inch of spare room remains in this box. A fluffy grey Persian has squeezed itself into a plain brown cardboard box on the kitchen floor, its long fur puffing out over the edges and both front paws resting on the rim like a passenger leaning out a window. Its flat face, small nose, and bright orange eyes give it an expression that looks grumpy and a little embarrassed at the same time, as if it fully understands that the box is too small and refuses to admit it. Behind it, a granite counter holds a folded towel, and a sunny window brightens the room.
The famous rule of cats is simple: if it fits, they sit, and sometimes even if it does not quite fit. Boxes give cats a sense of security, because the walls protect their sides and back while they keep watch on what is in front of them. Cardboard also holds warmth well, which appeals to cats who naturally like cozy temperatures. For long-coated breeds like Persians, a snug box can be a favorite napping spot. Just make sure any box is free of tape, staples, or plastic before your cat moves in.
Whatever came in that box, the cat clearly decided the packaging was the real gift. Leave it on the floor for a few days. Odds are it will become the most popular piece of furniture in the house.
