A Ruby Cavalier Is Sitting in the Kitchen Sink With Very Big Eyes
Two enormous dark eyes peer up from a kitchen sink, and they belong to a ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with long, silky ears and the guiltiest expression in the house. He sits among dirty plates, a fork, a spoon, and a half-empty glass, his chestnut-red paws resting on a rumpled dish towel. Bits of pasta and crumbs are scattered around him.
Behind him is a sponge on the edge of the sink, a gray cloth, a window flooded with light, and a faucet curving over his head. We'll call him Cooper. He seems to have jumped in for a better view, or perhaps for a taste, and has just heard footsteps.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are sweet, affectionate companions that adore being close to people, and they are usually gentle and eager to please. They are also champions at food-seeking, so leftover plates are hard for them to resist. Dirty dishes can hold ingredients harmful to dogs, including onions, garlic, grapes, and sugar-free sweeteners, plus chicken bones that can splinter and cut. Keep dishes rinsed and loaded promptly, and keep the kitchen gate closed if your dog is a counter surfer. Cavaliers can have heart concerns as they age, so regular vet checkups matter. If you suspect he swallowed something dangerous, call your vet or a pet poison hotline right away.
Cooper sits still in the sink, ears draped around him like a velvet curtain, waiting to see whether he is in trouble or just adorable.
