A British Shorthair Freezes Mid-Crime Beside a Torn Tissue Box
The freeze is total. The cream British Shorthair is sitting upright with enormous amber eyes, and next to her a tissue box has been torn open, with a bright cloud of tissues spilling across the floor in soft white drifts. One tissue is still half out of the box. Her round cheeks and tiny pink nose make her look very sweet, and the sofa and shelf behind her are calm, as if nothing is wrong.
Tissues are an irresistible toy for lots of cats. They are light, they rustle, and they pop out of the box one after another, which is very satisfying for a cat who likes to pounce. British Shorthairs are known for being calm, easygoing, and a bit dignified, but under that plush, round-faced look is a cat who still enjoys a good game. If your cat loves pulling tissues, you can give her a box of crumpled paper to play in, or a safe cardboard puzzle. Some cats eat tissues, which can cause stomach trouble, so if yours does, talk to your vet. Keeping tissue boxes in a closed cabinet is the easy fix.
She looks like she is waiting for a spotlight to turn off. Her stillness is hilarious, and the tissues are going to be everywhere for a while. Nobody will mind too much, because that face is pretty hard to be annoyed at.
