A Dalmatian Sits Proudly Beside the Box He Took Apart

AI imagedalmatiancardboard boxliving room

Pieces of cardboard cover the floor around the Dalmatian, and what was once a shipping box is now a crumpled frame with its sides torn out. He sits with his chest out and his black-spotted head turned toward the viewer, and he has the faintest smile, as if he is quite proud of the job. Behind him, a green couch, a few toys, and a laundry bag show that this is a living room that is very much lived in.

Dalmatians are athletic, energetic dogs with a long history of running alongside carriages, and they still have a great deal of stamina. They are loyal and playful, but they need a lot of daily exercise and plenty to do, or they might turn to destroying boxes for entertainment. Cardboard is a common chewing target, and it is usually not harmful in small bits, but a lot of swallowed cardboard can upset a dog's stomach, so talk to your vet if you are worried. Running, fetch, and games that use his nose and mind will help to use up that energy. A strong chew toy can give him something satisfying to rip apart that is safe.

We will call him Pongo. The box didn't stand a chance. He looks relaxed, so the cleanup will be a family effort, and he will probably supervise it from the couch.
