Pickles the Dachshund Added a Few Splashes to His Spots
Splashes of pale paint cover the dapple Dachshund's long back and drooping ears, and a puddle is slowly spreading from the tipped-over can beside him. His coat is a mix of grey, tan, and brown spots that looks almost like a painting already, and he turns his long nose away to look off the side, avoiding eye contact. A basket and a pair of slippers are set against the wall in the sunny room behind him.
Dachshunds are bold, curious dogs who love to investigate, and their low bodies get them into tight spots. If a dog gets paint on his coat, the most important thing is to keep him from licking it off, because many paints and solvents are harmful if swallowed. Call your vet or a pet poison hotline for advice right away, rather than using strong chemicals on his skin. Keep paint cans closed and put away during projects. Dachshunds also have long backs, so it is wise to prevent jumping off high furniture and keep them at a healthy weight, which helps protect their spines. Your vet can give good advice on that as well.
We will call him Pickles. He is a very good sport about the whole thing, and a gentle bath with a vet-approved cleaner will likely sort him out. He is still the most colorful dog on the block.
