Biscuit the Yorkie Opened Dinner a Little Early
Kibble has poured across the floor from a ripped paper bag, and the little Yorkshire Terrier next to it is wearing a very serious look. His silky blue and tan coat is neat, but his ears are tilted back and his dark eyes are fixed on the camera as though waiting for a verdict. A blue tote bag and a basket sit in the background, and the whole kitchen has a calm quiet that is a little too quiet.
Yorkshire Terriers are tiny dogs with big, bold personalities, and they were originally bred to catch rats in mills, which explains the confidence of such a small dog. They are smart, affectionate, and can be a bit stubborn. Because they are so small, overeating can quickly lead to weight gain or an upset stomach, so the food bag should be sealed in a bin that a determined terrier cannot open. Portion control matters for every dog, and your vet can tell you the right amount for your Yorkie's size and age. Long-coated Yorkies also need regular brushing, and the tiny breeds often need careful dental care as well.
We will call him Biscuit. He did not need to rip open the bag, since there is always food in his bowl, but where is the fun in that? The floor will be swept, and the bag will be moved up high.
