A Fluffy White Cat Gets Caught in the Window Blinds
Window blinds are bent and twisted around the long white fur of the Norwegian Forest Cat, who looks up with big, startled eyes and a perked set of tufted ears. She has climbed up onto the windowsill to watch the world outside, and now her fluffy coat and one paw are caught among the slats and the pull cords. A houseplant, a mug, and a pile of towels sit nearby in the sunny room.
Cats love a window perch. The view of birds, squirrels, and passing cars is better than television, and a sunny sill is warm and comfortable. But blinds can be a hazard, especially the kind with cords, which can wrap around a cat. Cordless blinds or tied-up cords are a much safer choice, and a window perch with a soft cushion gives her a safe spot to look outside without bending the slats. Norwegian Forest Cats are strong, agile climbers with thick, water-resistant coats, so a tall cat tree is a good fit for them. If your cat does get tangled in cords, stay calm and free her gently, and call your vet if she seems hurt.
We will call her Snowdrift. She is a very good sport about being untangled, and will likely return to the window as soon as she is free. The blinds, sadly, are not going to be the same.
