A Hairless Sphynx Climbs Into the Open Dishwasher Rack Again

AI imagesphynx catdishwasherkitchen

The dishwasher door is open, the bottom rack has slid out, and a grey Sphynx is sitting right among the plates and utensils with her enormous ears upright and her eyes wide. Her wrinkled skin is the color of a stormy sky, her thin tail curls around her feet, and her expression looks like she has been caught in the middle of a very important inspection. The kitchen counter beside her has a cloth, a cutting board, and a few jars.

Sphynx cats love warm places, since they have no fur coat to keep them cozy, and a freshly run dishwasher can feel like a spa. But a dishwasher is a real danger for any pet. Cats can be shut inside by accident, and detergent and sharp knives are hazards, so always check the inside before closing the door and keep it shut when you are not loading it. Sphynx cats are playful, social, and love to be with their people, and they often seek out warm laps, sunny windows, and blankets. They need a warm home and a regular bath to remove skin oils, and your vet can help with a routine.

She looks as though she has just taken over the kitchen. A warm blanket in a safe place is a much better idea, and she would probably accept it at once. The dishes, however, will need to wait.
