A Red Exotic Shorthair Settles Into the Empty Pizza Box

The pizza is long gone, but the red tabby Exotic Shorthair has made himself comfortable in what is left of the box. He sits in the middle of the cardboard with his round, flat face tilted up and his amber eyes wide, giving the room a look of pure innocence. His orange coat blends with the box, and a few grease spots on the cardboard suggest that he had a good reason for climbing in. Behind him, blankets and toys hint at a very relaxed afternoon.

Cats love boxes of every shape, and a flat pizza box is no exception. The sides provide a sense of shelter, and the cardboard is warm and has an interesting smell. There is a safety point here, though. Leftover pizza can contain onions, garlic, or heavy seasoning that are not good for cats, and the greasy cardboard can tempt them to chew it. If your cat eats something you are worried about, call your vet. Exotic Shorthairs are sweet, calm cats with round faces and plush short coats, and they tend to be affectionate and quiet. A sturdy cardboard box without grease is a good and cheap gift for them.

He looks very pleased, as though the box has been reserved for him all along. Whether he ate any crust or not remains his secret. The box will probably be a bed for a week.
