A Russian Blue Takes Her Seat in the Sink, Right on Top of the Dishes

AI imagerussian bluecaught in the actkitchen sink

The sink is stacked with plates, forks, spoons, and a drinking glass, and right in the middle sits a blue-grey cat with an upright, regal posture. Leftover spaghetti clings to the plate next to her, a sponge and a bottle of soap line the counter behind her, and a streak of golden light slants in from the window. Her bright green eyes look straight ahead with an air of calm, as if sitting in a pile of dirty dishes is a perfectly dignified thing to do.

Cats love sinks. The smooth, cool surface is a comfortable place to rest on a warm day, and the small space makes them feel safe and snug. Some also like to drink from a dripping faucet. Dirty dishes, however, are a hazard. Leftover food scraps can include onions, garlic, or fatty trimmings that are unsafe for cats, and cleaning products can be harmful if she licks them. Try to wash dishes quickly, or cover the sink with a cutting board, and place a soft bed or a shelf nearby for her to perch instead. A pet fountain can satisfy the love of running water. If she licks anything you are worried about, call your vet.

She looks completely at ease, as if the kitchen belongs to her, which, truthfully, it might. The dishes can wait, because the queen is currently in session.
