A Jack Russell Snatched a Sandwich and Froze When the Light Came On
A half-eaten sandwich lies on the tile, with lettuce and tomato peeking from between the bread. Over it stands a tricolor Jack Russell with his ears flopped forward and his eyes wide open, as though somebody just called his name. A fork, a stray onion, and some crumbs are scattered across the floor beside him, and the cabinet in the background hangs slightly open.
Jack Russell Terriers are energetic, clever little dogs with endless stamina, and they are known for finding creative ways to get what they want. They need lots of exercise, training, and mental work to stay out of trouble. Sandwiches can include ingredients that are not good for dogs, such as onions, garlic, and rich sauces, so a stolen lunch is worth a call to your vet if you are unsure about what was in it. A firm leave-it command, taught with treats, is an excellent skill for a dog like this.
We will call him Rocket. He has the look of a champion sprinter who has crossed the finish line with the prize in his mouth and been caught mid-stride. He is not moving, not even his eyebrows. The sandwich is no longer fit for lunch, but it was clearly well worth the risk to him. The kitchen floor will need a mop, and the sandwich maker will need a new lunch plan for the afternoon.
