The Husky Heard Something Very Interesting Far Away on the Patio
On the concrete patio, a burlap bag of potting soil has tipped over, spilling a dark fan of earth across the ground. A gray and white Husky stands beside it, head turned toward the side, with icy blue-gray eyes and upright ears pointing at something very far away. Watering cans, flowerpots, and garden tools crowd the edge of the yard behind her, and her white chest is clean, which is slightly suspicious.
Siberian Huskies were bred to pull sleds across long distances, so they have enormous energy and a strong urge to dig, explore, and escape. They need a lot of daily exercise, and a bored Husky can reorganize a garden in no time. Potting soil can contain fertilizers or other additives that may upset a dog's stomach, and swallowing a lot of it is a reason to call your vet. A secure yard and a spot where digging is allowed can protect the flower pots.
We will call her Aurora. She stands perfectly composed, like a dog who has never touched a bag of soil in her life. Her eyes glance in another direction, as if she hears something exciting out in the distance. The patio will need a sweep, but she has the dignity of a statue, and it is hard not to admire it. The sky is bright, the soil is everywhere, and she is staying exactly as cool as a fresh snowfall.
