The Basset Hound Took an Unplanned Spa Day in the Bathtub
Bubbles pile up around a lemon and white Basset Hound named Buddy, who sits in the tub with a tiny, content smile. His long, floppy ears hang down on both sides of his face, and his dark eyes seem half-closed with relaxation. White foam reaches up to his chest, and the bathroom behind him holds a plant, a towel and a basket of toys, all waiting patiently for the bath to be over.
Basset Hounds are calm, mellow dogs with low, long bodies and ears that nearly touch the ground. Some Bassets love water, while others avoid it, and their ears can trap moisture, which makes drying very important. After any bath, gently dry the inside of the ears to prevent irritation, and check with your vet if you notice a smell or redness.
Dog shampoo is designed for a dog's skin, which is different from ours, so bubbles from a human bath may be too harsh. Never leave a dog alone in a tub, since slippery surfaces can cause falls. Rinse thoroughly, keep soap out of the eyes and ears and offer a treat for good behavior. A non-slip mat helps make bath time safer.
Buddy lounges in his bubbles like a king at a spa. He did not plan the bath, but he seems perfectly willing to enjoy it, whether or not the rest of the family agrees.
