A Chocolate Havanese Was Caught Holding the Chewed Slipper
A chocolate-brown Havanese named Mocha holds a battered slipper in her mouth, and she is looking at the camera with her ears pulled back in a very sheepish way. The slipper has holes and frayed edges, and a few bits of fabric trail from her chin. Behind her, a pile of colorful building blocks and a basket of laundry sit on the floor, with warm light spilling across the room.
Havanese dogs are cheerful, social companions with silky, wavy coats. They are playful and quick to learn, and they love following their people from room to room. Slippers carry the scent of their favorite person, which makes them a prized item for carrying around. Many dogs steal shoes and slippers as a way to get attention or to comfort themselves.
If your dog likes slippers, try offering a swap with a special toy or treat so she learns to give things up willingly. Teaching 'drop it' is helpful, and keeping shoes in a closet can prevent chewing. Pieces of fabric or rubber can cause stomach problems if swallowed, so talk to your vet if your dog eats part of a shoe. A long walk can help burn off nervous energy.
Mocha holds her prize with a hint of embarrassment but a lot of love. It is a very chewed token of affection, and someone will need a new pair.
