The Water Bowl Tipped and a British Shorthair Froze in the Puddle
Wide, round eyes stare straight ahead from the face of a cream British Shorthair who sits in the middle of a very wet floor. A silver water bowl lies on its side behind her, a shiny puddle stretches across the boards, and a pair of slippers sit by the door. Her plush coat looks soft and her small ears are alert. She has the unmistakable look of a cat who froze the moment the splash ended.
Cats are often curious about water. Some bat at it to test it, some tip bowls over to see the splash, and some simply enjoy watching water move. If a cat spills a bowl often, a heavier ceramic dish, or a wider bowl with a non-slip mat, can help. British Shorthairs are calm and gentle cats who like a stable routine, and they often prefer fresh water. It is a good idea to change a cat's water daily and wash the bowl. If your cat suddenly starts drinking much more than normal, mention it to your vet.
The water will dry and the floor will be mopped, but her stunned stare stays in memory. She seems to be waiting for someone to explain what just happened, as if the bowl tipped itself. Maybe next time she will use a paw to point out the culprit.
