A Scottish Fold Sits Calmly in the Middle of Spilled Garbage
The trash can is on its side, and its contents have gone on an adventure. Banana peels, an orange rind, paper scraps and a few cups lie spread across the floor, and in the middle of it all sits a round gray Scottish Fold with folded ears and large amber eyes. He looks up as though the garbage rolled out all by itself.
Scottish Folds are known for their small, folded ears and round faces, which give them an owl-like look. They are usually sweet, calm cats that enjoy being around people. Like all cats, though, they are guided by their noses, and a bin of food scraps is a tempting library of smells.
Trash can be risky for pets. Chicken bones, coffee grounds, spoiled food, plastic wrap and string can all cause harm if swallowed, and some items, such as grapes, onions or anything with xylitol, are dangerous to cats and dogs. A trash can with a locking lid, or one kept inside a cupboard, is the easiest solution. If a pet might have eaten something dangerous, call your vet promptly.
The cat himself seems unbothered by the mess, and perhaps a little bit pleased. He may wait until the humans come home and see the drama before deciding what to say. Until then, he will sit among the peels with the quiet confidence of a cat who never claimed to be tidy.
