A Muddy Siamese Picked the Cleanest Rug in the House

The white rug was spotless this morning, and now it has a Siamese cat lying on it covered in mud. Dark smudges streak her cream coat, her gray paws are caked with dirt, and little clumps of earth sit scattered across the fluffy fibers. Her pale green eyes look up and slightly sideways, ears pulled back in a guilty expression.

Siamese cats are famous for their pointed color pattern, with darker fur on the ears, face, paws and tail. That pattern comes from a heat-sensitive gene that keeps the cooler body parts darker. They are talkative, clever and energetic cats who love adventures, which may explain how this one found so much mud.

If a cat comes in dirty, a damp cloth or a soft brush is usually enough to clean her up, since most cats do not like full baths. Avoid human shampoos, and check her paws and fur for burrs, splinters or anything stuck on. Cats groom themselves by licking, so if she was in anything that might be chemical, like antifreeze or fertilizer, call your vet right away.

The rug will need a good wash, but she is not rushing to leave it. There is a comfortable spot in the middle of the room and a very soft surface, and she has decided to enjoy it. A little mud never stopped a Siamese from feeling like royalty.
