A Silver Maine Coon Turned the Wrapping Paper Into a Fort
Brown paper curls around the silver Maine Coon like a nest, and two empty cardboard tubes lie crossed in front of him. He sits right in the middle with his tufted ears up, his green eyes bright and a tiny smile on his whiskered face. Crumpled pieces and tangled strips of paper stretch away across the carpet.
The holiday season is a gold mine for cats. Wrapping paper crackles, ribbon dangles, boxes tempt them to jump in, and a roll of paper practically asks to be unrolled. A Maine Coon is one of the largest breeds, and a big cat in a pile of paper is quite a sight. They are known to be playful into adulthood, and a good pile is an excellent playground.
Wrapping paper itself is not usually harmful, but tape, ribbon and string can be. Swallowed ribbon is dangerous for cats, since it can tangle inside the intestines, so keep it out of reach and tidy up after gift wrapping. Offer a plain paper bag or a cardboard tube as a safe toy, and talk to your vet if your cat swallows anything suspicious.
This fellow has certainly found the best use for all that paper. He looks pleased and relaxed, safely tucked inside his rustling fort. The gifts may wait, and the cat is already enjoying his own present.
