A Roll of Wrapping Paper Was Waiting for the Gifts. The Shih Tzu Moved In.
Torn pieces of cream wrapping paper dotted with gold stars lie across the floor, and in the middle of them sits a gold and white Shih Tzu with a very serious face. Her silky ears fall to the sides and her dark eyes look up with a hint of worry. A roll of paper lies unrolled beside her, and warm sunlight spills over the room. A laundry basket, a couch and a few shoes sit in the background. We'll call her Tinsel, and she has opened every present she could find.
Shih Tzus are small, friendly dogs bred as royal companions in ancient times, and they are known for loving people and attention. They have a long, silky double coat that needs frequent brushing, and their flat faces mean they can overheat easily in warm weather. Wrapping paper, ribbons and tape can be a risk if swallowed, since they can upset a dog's stomach or cause a blockage. Keep gifts out of reach and clear wrapping scraps quickly. If your dog swallows ribbon or string, call your vet right away. A treat box of her own is a nice substitute.
Tinsel doesn't seem to know she did anything wrong. She sits in a sea of paper, ready for the next surprise. The wrapping job will have to start over, and somebody will probably laugh before they sigh.
