A Black Cat King Took the Throne and Never Blinked Once
On a throne of dark carved wood sits a black cat with a tiny gold crown, a collar of white ermine with black tails and eyes the color of lemon peel. His red robe is stitched with gold in elaborate scrolls, and one paw rests on the arm of the throne where a carved lion head peeks out. The wall behind him is a dark green and gold tapestry with pomegranates and flowers. The king's glossy black fur nearly disappears into the shadows, leaving the eyes to do all the talking. King Onyx has not blinked, and nobody dares to ask him to.
Black cats have been admired and, sadly, misunderstood for centuries, though they are simply cats in a different coat. Their glossy coats can look rusty brown in strong sunlight, which is a harmless quirk of pigment. Shelters often report that black cats wait longer for homes than lighter ones, so they are worth a second look for anyone thinking of adopting. Like all cats, they enjoy high perches, regular play and a quiet place to rest. A throne, in feline terms, is just a very good chair, and most cats appreciate a comfy one.
The crown is small, the throne is large, and the king is entirely unbothered. With a ruler so calm, the realm is likely to be peaceful, if a little sleepy.
