Three Cream Puppies Claimed the Picnic Blanket, but Only One Is Still Awake
A red and white checkered picnic blanket has been spread across the living room floor, and three cream puppies have wasted no time making it theirs. They lie in a snug row with their soft coats glowing in a beam of late sunlight. The pup on the left is still awake, chin up and dark eyes alert. The middle one has rested his head on his paws and is fading fast, and the third has already closed his eyes. A basket of toys and a gray dog bed sit forgotten in the background.
Young puppies sleep a great deal, and that's perfectly normal. Much of their growth and development happens during rest, and play sessions can wear them out quickly, especially in tiny breeds. A healthy routine for a new puppy usually looks like short bursts of play, a potty break, and then a long nap. It helps to give puppies a quiet, comfortable place to sleep where they won't be constantly disturbed, particularly in busy households with children. Waking a sleeping puppy over and over can leave it cranky and overtired, much like a toddler. If a puppy seems unusually sluggish even after resting, or isn't eating well, check in with your vet.
These three have clearly reached the end of their energy for now, and the sunny blanket couldn't be a better place to recharge.
A picnic without food is still a picnic if it ends in a group nap like this.
