Spring Came to the Tulip Bed, and So Did a Very Small Visitor

AI imagechihuahuatulipsspring garden

Spring has arrived in the garden, and so has a very small visitor. A fuzzy chocolate puppy with tan markings on his paws and muzzle sits in the middle of a tulip bed, surrounded by pink, red, and yellow blooms just beginning to open. His wispy ears stick out like little sails, and his amber-brown eyes gaze up with a sweet, slightly puzzled look. A few fallen petals lie on the ground near his feet, and a weathered fence encloses the garden behind him.

Tulips are a cheerful sign of spring, but they aren't a good snack for pets. All parts of the tulip plant contain compounds that can irritate a dog's mouth and stomach, and the bulbs are the most concentrated source. Dogs who dig up and chew bulbs can end up drooling, vomiting, or with an upset stomach, and larger amounts can be more serious. Daffodils, hyacinths, and some other spring bulbs carry similar risks. If you have a curious puppy, consider fencing off flower beds, supervising garden time, and storing bulbs out of reach before planting. If your dog chews on a plant you're unsure about, call your vet or a pet poison hotline.

Thankfully, this little one only seems interested in posing. He sits politely among the blooms like he planted them himself.

Of all the flowers in this garden, he's the one everyone will want to stop and look at.
