A Tricolor Basset Puppy Waited Very Seriously in a Garden Wheelbarrow
Sitting inside a dented metal wheelbarrow, a tricolor Basset Hound puppy wears an expression of great seriousness. His black saddle, white chest and golden-brown face shine in the sunlight, and one long ear sweeps down against the metal. A potted plant, a laundry basket and a stack of boxes are visible beyond the wheelbarrow in the entry hall.
A Basset puppy's solemn look is part of the breed's charm. Those loose, wrinkled brows and low-set ears give almost every Basset a thoughtful, slightly sad expression, even when he is perfectly happy. The breed is gentle, patient and generally friendly with other pets and people. Bassets are also stubborn, since they were bred to follow a scent trail on their own. Training is best with patience, short sessions and tasty rewards. Remember that a Basset's body is heavy, long and low to the ground, so lifting him carefully matters. Support his chest with one arm and his hind end with the other, and keep him from jumping down from high places. If a puppy is going to sit in a metal wheelbarrow, check for sharp or rusty edges first, and keep him out of any container that tips easily.
For now this pup looks like he's waiting to be wheeled somewhere important. Wherever it is, he would probably arrive in no particular hurry.
