Nobody Dared Fold the Towels After the Puppies Fell Asleep on Them
Three ruby puppies have collapsed in a pile on a heap of fluffy white towels, noses pointing the same direction, ears folded flat. Their coats shine like new pennies against the pale cotton, and each little chest rises and falls in slow time. A sunny window and a potted plant stand quietly in the background, as if the room itself is trying not to wake them.
Littermates often sleep in a cluster, and it makes sense: staying close keeps them warm and gives comfort. Young puppies can sleep for many hours each day, and they need that rest to grow. If a pup is dozing, it is usually best to let her sleep, and to keep the quiet spot away from drafts and busy foot traffic.
Towels make a handy temporary bed, but check them for loose threads or holes that might catch tiny claws, and wash them often, since puppies can have accidents. A proper dog bed with a washable cover is a good long-term choice. Soft, comfortable bedding also encourages good sleep habits from the start, which helps both the puppy and the household.
There is something deeply peaceful about three small bodies sharing a single pillow of terry cloth. The afternoon might hold zoomies and chewing later, but for now, the towels have turned into the coziest place in the house.
