Two Pups Fell Asleep on the Kitchen Floor Forehead to Forehead
On the cool speckled floor of a farmhouse kitchen, two red and white Border Collie puppies are sleeping with their foreheads touching. Their eyes are closed, one white paw is stretched out in front, and the chestnut patches on their ears look like matching caps. A blue-gray cabinet, a dish towel and an open window to a green yard make the setting feel calm and homey.
Kitchens are a favorite hangout for dogs for obvious reasons: the smells, the people, the occasional dropped crumb. For puppies, a quiet spot on a cool floor is also a smart choice on a warm day. Make sure the kitchen is puppy-safe, though. Some common foods such as chocolate, grapes, raisins, onions and anything sweetened with xylitol are dangerous for dogs, so keep them well out of reach and ask your vet if you have questions.
The farmhouse look suits the breed. Border Collies come from the working farms of the border region between Scotland and England, and their quick thinking and stamina are still the signature traits. Even as pups, they seem to take in everything happening in a room, even while dozing.
These two are doing their best impression of a matching set. They breathe in time, they twitch in time and, any moment now, they will probably dream of the same thing.
