Two Saint Bernard Puppies Settled Into a Deep Pile of Leaves
A deep pile of crunchy orange and brown leaves has collected on the porch, and two red and white Saint Bernard puppies have settled right in the middle of it. One sits with a calm, upright look, while the other lies low with its chin resting on a leaf. Behind them, shoes, a bench and a basket give the porch a lived-in feel.
Leaf piles are irresistible to puppies, but a quick safety check is smart. Damp leaves can hide mold and sharp sticks, and some wild mushrooms that grow in leaf litter are harmful to dogs. After playing outside, check your puppy's coat for burrs and ticks, especially in thick fur around the ears and legs, and ask your vet about tick prevention.
Saint Bernards love cool weather, and autumn is a lovely season for a young puppy of this breed. Their thick coats keep them comfortable when the air gets crisp, and they often enjoy lounging outside. Even so, small puppies need warmth and rest, so keep outdoor time reasonable and bring them in when they seem tired.
For these two, the leaves are exactly right. They are crunchy, they smell wonderful and they make a perfect cushion for a thoughtful afternoon. Every time one of them shifts, the leaves crackle like a tiny drumroll, and both puppies look up at the sound with the same surprised expression.
