Three Tiny Beagle Puppies Fit in One Pair of Cupped Hands
Cradled in a pair of cupped hands, three tiny red and white Beagle puppies have snuggled up shoulder to shoulder. Their eyes are barely open, and their faces are small, round and soft, with chestnut patches over their ears and white muzzles. The person's gray sleeve rests along the bottom of the frame, and a blurred couch glows behind. The three of them look as peaceful as if the hands were a warm nest.
Very young puppies are fragile, so careful handling matters. Support the whole body, keep them low over a soft surface, and wash your hands before and after. Puppies this small need warmth, their mother's care and a calm environment, and they should not be separated from the litter too early. Beagle puppies are born with sweet, sleepy faces and their ears seem too big for their heads. If you ever help look after a litter, your vet can advise on feeding and health checks.
As they grow, their eyes will open fully, their legs will strengthen, and the world of smells will pull them across the room.
But for the moment, the whole world is warm, safe and the exact size of two hands. It is hard to imagine that these three will soon be racing around the room, but every hound starts out this small and this sweet. Moments like this are the heart of puppyhood, and they pass quickly.
