Odessa Soaped Up the Car. Onyx Went After the Hose Instead.
The driveway is slick with water, and Onyx is in the middle of a battle with the garden hose. He is up on his hind legs with both front paws reaching toward a sparkling stream of water, his ears pricked and his golden eyes glued to the spray. Behind him, Grandma Odessa in a gray top and glasses rubs a sponge along the side of the car and watches with a patient smile. A blue bucket of soapy water sits nearby, and garden pots line the edge of the porch.
Moving water is strangely thrilling for lots of cats, even those who dislike baths. A Devon Rex is an active, curious breed that often loves games, so a splashing hose can be hard to resist. It is still smart to keep an eye on things. Car-washing products, soap and car fluids can be harmful if licked, so rinse spills away and keep buckets covered. Wet cats also lose body heat quickly, and the Devon Rex's short, fine coat means they can get chilly faster than fluffier cats. If he ends up soaked, dry him gently with a warm towel indoors. Talk to your vet if you have worries about anything he may have licked.
Odessa says the car has never been cleaner. Onyx would say he has never had so much fun.
