Gus Fixed the Fence and Domino Showed Up With His Own Lumber
There is a hammer in Gus's hand, a half-fixed fence in front of him and a stick in Domino's mouth, and both of them are working very hard. Grandpa Gus kneels at the weathered boards in his olive fishing vest, tools in every pocket, glasses perched on his nose as he lines up a nail. Domino the pied French Bulldog stands beside him with a long, twisted branch clamped in his jaws and an earnest look in his dark eyes. A house with a glass door, potted succulents and a coiled hose wait behind them.
Frenchies are generally playful, stubborn, funny dogs who love being involved in whatever their person is doing. Chewing sticks is a common habit, but it comes with risks. Splinters can injure the mouth and throat, and larger pieces can cause trouble if swallowed, so a dog-safe chew toy is a better choice. Workshop and yard projects bring other hazards, such as nails, screws and tools, so keep these out of reach and sweep up when you are done. Because Frenchies are short-nosed, they tire quickly, so give them breaks in the shade and plenty of water during outdoor work. If a dog swallows anything sharp, call your vet right away.
Gus raises the hammer and gives the dog a sideways glance. Domino stands proud, stick high. There's no need to say who the real foreman is. The fence will get fixed, and the dog will take credit. It is a very good arrangement, as long as the stick eventually gets traded for a treat.
