Grandpa Gus and Domino Squeezed Into the Frame for a Porch Selfie
Two faces fill the frame, and neither one is hiding. Grandpa Gus leans in with a warm, crinkled smile, his white mustache curled up at the ends and his tools tucked into the pockets of his green vest. Domino, the pied French Bulldog, presses his big black-and-white face right into the picture, bat ears wide, deep brown eyes shining and a brown leather collar around his neck. Behind them, a porch rail, a potted plant and a hazy garden glow in the morning light.
Frenchies are famous for their expressive faces and big personalities. Their wrinkled foreheads, wide-set eyes and upright ears give them a face full of character, and they are known to be affectionate and funny with their families. That flat face also means they need some extra care. Clean the folds on the face regularly with a soft, damp cloth, and dry them well, because moisture can lead to skin irritation. Brachycephalic dogs overheat easily, so keep them cool, avoid strenuous exercise in warm weather and talk to your vet about breathing concerns. A well-fitted harness is more comfortable than a collar for many Frenchies.
Gus tilts his head and Domino leans in, a pair of old friends who know the angle by heart. There's no need for a perfect backdrop. The best pictures are often the ones taken in a slightly messy moment, with the people and dogs who matter most. This one catches both of them with their guard down and their smiles on.
