If It Fits, They Sit. A Schnauzer and a Baby Goat Tested the Rule.

If it fits, they sit, and apparently that rule applies to dogs and goats too. A black and silver Miniature Schnauzer with a magnificent gray beard has wedged itself into an open cardboard box, and right next to it a white baby goat with curved little horns squeezes in, ears flopped out to the sides. Their expressions are hilariously serious, as though they are waiting for someone to mail them somewhere. In the background, a gray couch with a plaid blanket, a stuffed bunny, a row of shoes and a plant by the window round out a cozy living room.

Boxes appeal to many animals because they offer a small, enclosed space that feels safe. Goats in particular are notorious for climbing into and onto anything, and they also like to chew cardboard, which is generally not harmful in small amounts but should not replace their proper diet of hay and forage. Remove tape, staples and plastic labels before letting animals play in boxes, since those can be swallowed. Miniature Schnauzers are energetic and playful, and a simple box can be a great boredom buster for them as well. Toss in a toy or a treat to make it into an easy enrichment game.

This box may have arrived with something useful inside, but it has found its true calling. Two friends, one cardboard fort and a whole afternoon to enjoy it.
