Two Faces in a Barn Doorway, Both Waiting for Something
Two faces appear at the edge of a weathered wooden doorframe. A white cat with pale green eyes is on the left, her pink nose and clean white whiskers just visible. Waffles rests his chin on the splintered board on the right, his eyes soft and half closed. Behind them, a patch of green yard, a blue bucket and a few tall trees glow in the afternoon light. It looks as if they are listening to something outside.
Cats are naturally curious about thresholds, doorways and gaps, and many dogs are too. Barn doors and sheds are fascinating, but they can hold hazards such as old nails, splinters, chemicals and machinery. Before letting pets explore, check that the space is safe. White cats may also be more prone to sunburn on their ears and noses, especially if they spend time outside, so talk to your vet about sun protection. Puppies, who are still learning about the world, should not be left to roam freely in places with hazards.
For the moment, the pair are only peeking, which is the safest way to explore. They look like partners in a very small adventure, and the yard outside is waiting. Soon enough one of them will decide it is time to step out, and the other will, of course, follow right behind.
