A Stripe of Sunshine and Two Sleepers Who Matched It
A long stripe of sunlight has stretched across the wooden floor, and two sleepers lie right in it. An orange longhaired cat has her eyes closed and her nose pressed to Waffles the puppy's cheek. The puppy lies beside her with his own eyes shut, his ears soft, and his chin on the boards. The light picks out every strand of their fur, making both of them glow in shades of apricot and gold.
Sunbeams are some of a cat's favorite places, and dogs love them too. Warmth helps pets relax, and a bit of natural light is good for their mood. Notice how the pair moves with the sun, because they will shift as it travels across the room. In hot weather, make sure your pets can also find a cooler spot and fresh water. Long-haired cats can overheat in strong sun, so check on them if they stay in a hot window. Brushing often also helps keep a long coat tidy and cool.
Right now the sun is gentle, and the floor is warm. The cat and the puppy are the same color as the light, and both look as if they never plan to leave. It is hard to imagine a better afternoon. As the sun slides along the boards, they will likely scoot a little to stay inside it, never even waking up.
