The Abyssinian Gave a Sleepy Puppy a Piggyback Across the Yard

AI imageabyssinianpuppybackyard

Slow steps across the grass, and a very small passenger. A cinnamon Abyssinian cat walks carefully across the yard with Waffles the puppy draped over her back, his chin tucked into her fur and his eyes closed. Her ears are alert, her gaze fixed straight ahead, and she lifts each paw as if balancing a tray. A blue ball, a flowerpot, a scattering of chew toys and a wooden fence fill out the yard.

Abyssinians are agile, athletic cats that love to climb, explore and stay on the move. Their lean build and quick reflexes make them good at balancing, and they often enjoy having a job to do. That said, a puppy riding on a cat is a rare kind of trust, and it is worth being cautious. A puppy who grows up can easily be too heavy and too rough, so it is best to teach good manners early. Make sure the cat always has the freedom to move away, and supervise any shared play so that neither gets hurt.

For now, the ride is smooth and the passenger is fast asleep. The Abyssinian will probably complete the journey in her own time, then find a patch of sun, and the whole parade will settle down together. Even the toys scattered on the grass seem to understand that this is a serious procession and should not be interrupted.
