The Snow Was Deep, and the Cavalier Made a Warm Spot for Her Ducklings
Snow covers the yard, and a ruby-red Cavalier King Charles Spaniel lies on it with her long ears draped and her gentle, round eyes looking straight at the viewer. Tucked tightly against her side is a cluster of fluffy yellow ducklings, huddled in her warmth. A wooden fence, bare branches and a porch light glow in the cold blue dusk behind them.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are affectionate, gentle dogs, famous for being friendly with just about everyone. They are playful but not too energetic, and they love being near their people. Their silky coat and long ears need regular brushing and cleaning. In cold weather they may need a warm coat or a short outing, and their paws should be wiped after walks.
Ducklings are very sensitive to cold and should not be left out in the snow. Young ones need a warm shelter with a heat source, dry bedding and clean water. A wet duckling can chill quickly, so any time spent outside should be short and supervised. A vet or poultry expert can offer advice on keeping them safe in winter.
The Cavalier looks like a very kind, very devoted friend. The snow is cold, but the little huddle looks warm and snug. A good friend knows how to share warmth when the weather turns, and this spaniel clearly does. The snow keeps falling softly.
