A Gentle Newfoundland Hosted a Duckling Picnic on the Blanket
A blue-and-cream checkered picnic blanket has become a nursery. A big, shaggy brown Newfoundland lies stretched out beside it with his chin low and his eyes soft, watching over a long diagonal row of fluffy yellow ducklings that stretches across the blanket. A wooden fence and a bit of yard are visible in the blurred background.
Newfoundlands are large, calm dogs that are known for being gentle with children and other animals. Their thick coats need frequent brushing and they are prone to drooling, so a towel is a handy accessory. They are happiest in cool weather and love water, so a shady spot and fresh water are important in the summer.
A picnic is a lovely way to spend time with pets, but there are a few things to remember. Keep food like grapes, chocolate and onions away from dogs, and keep ducklings away from salty or sugary snacks. Ducklings need clean water, proper food and shade, and they should never be left unattended around a large dog. A vet or poultry expert can help.
The Newfoundland looks like a very gentle host, and the ducklings look like very polite guests. It is a quiet picnic with no sandwiches in sight. The afternoon is slow, the blanket is soft and the company is very good. There is not much more a picnic needs.
