The Jack Russell Held Very Still While Ducklings Napped on His Belly
The Jack Russell is lying flat on his side with his head up and his bright eyes on guard, and the ducklings have made themselves at home on his belly. A neat row of fluffy yellow babies snuggles together on the blanket, tucked up against his white coat. A sofa, a basket and a few scattered clothes make up the cozy room behind them.
Jack Russell Terriers are bold, energetic dogs that were originally bred for hunting. They are intelligent and quick, and they need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They have a strong prey drive, so training and supervision are especially important when they are around small animals. A calm terrier like this one shows excellent self-control.
Ducklings are drawn to warmth and will often nap against a resting animal. Still, any time a dog and ducklings share a space, they should be watched closely, as a sudden movement can hurt a duckling. Ducklings need a warm place to sleep, clean water and proper food, and a vet or poultry expert can offer advice.
The terrier is holding very still, and the ducklings are very comfortable. It is a very small act of kindness from a very big personality. The couch behind them looks like it has seen a lot of naps, and this one might be the most special. Even a busy terrier sometimes needs a quiet moment.
