A Fawn Frenchie and a Little Lamb Sniff Out a New Friendship
Nose to nose, a fawn French Bulldog and a small white lamb meet on a gravel patch of the yard. The Frenchie wears a black collar and his bat ears point up, while Dumpling stretches her neck forward with ears out and eyes wide. A wooden fence, some boots and a blue bowl show behind them. The dog's flat, wrinkled face is serious, and the lamb looks equally focused. It's a polite hello between two very different creatures, and neither seems to be in a rush to pull away. A leaf skitters across the gravel, and neither of them flinches.
Nose touching is a classic animal greeting, and it's a good sign when both animals stay relaxed. A loose body, soft eyes and a wagging or neutral tail point to comfort. French Bulldogs are friendly, affectionate dogs with a flat face that can make breathing harder, especially in heat or during hard exercise, so keep greetings and play gentle and in the shade. Lambs also rely on smell to recognize others, so a sniff is how they decide who is friend and who is stranger. If either animal looks tense, give them space and try again another day. Let them set the pace, and don't rush a first meeting.
For now the sniff is the whole conversation, and it's a good one. Gravel crunches softly as the lamb shifts her weight.
