A Silver Kitten in a Knit Pumpkin Hood Sits on the Doorstep
A tiny orange knit pumpkin hood with a green felt stem sits on a silver tabby kitten, and the effect is a pumpkin with whiskers. She sits on a worn concrete doorstep with her paws together and her gray eyes fixed on something just beyond the camera. Next to her are an old brown shoe, a watering can and a pot of dried leaves, while orange mums and corn stalks glow in the warm evening light.
This kitten looks like a silver Maine Coon, a breed known for its large size, tufted ears and gentle nature. They usually grow slowly and may not reach their full size for a few years, so a tiny kitten like this one has a lot of growing ahead. Their thick coat needs regular brushing, and they often enjoy being around people.
Knit costumes can be a gentle option for cats, since they are soft and light. Even so, check that the hood does not cover the eyes or ears, that the neck opening is loose, and that there are no loose threads that could catch on claws. A short time wearing the costume with a treat is plenty, and a doorstep is better visited with supervision.
We will call her Pip, short for pumpkin pip. She is sitting with great manners and has no idea how funny she looks. It may be the cutest harvest on the block.
