A Cream Golden Retriever Puppy Keeps the Glowing Pumpkin Company
The jack-o'-lantern glows from within, with a toothy smile, and the cream Golden Retriever puppy next to it looks at it sideways with a soft expression. His fur is a fluffy pale gold, his ears are soft and floppy and his black nose is turned a bit toward the glow. Behind him, a woven mat, shoes, a wicker basket and a bowl of candy sit in the entryway, and an open door lets in the last light of evening.
Golden Retriever puppies are known for their gentle, friendly and eager nature. They are usually good with children and other pets, and they love to carry things in their mouths and play fetch. They are also very energetic as puppies, so chewing and mouthing are normal, and providing chew toys, training and regular exercise helps to channel that energy.
A real flame inside a pumpkin is a hazard to a curious puppy. A wagging tail or a nosy sniff can knock it over or burn a nose, and the pumpkin itself can get hot. A battery-operated light gives the same glow without the risk, and any candy left in a bowl nearby should be kept out of reach, since chocolate is dangerous for dogs.
We will call him Honey. He is sitting calmly beside the pumpkin, as if he is keeping it company, and he is a very well-behaved watcher. The glow and the quiet make a peaceful moment before the doorbell starts to ring.
