A Cream Kitten Sat Under the Orange Lights and Stared at the Sky
Strings of orange lights glow along the porch beam, and a tiny cream Scottish Fold kitten sits on the railing, gazing off into the evening. Her folded ears sit close to her round head, giving her a soft, owl-like look, and her wide golden eyes reflect the warm light. A few leaves have drifted onto the boards, and a little pumpkin sits near the door. The sky behind her is turning blue.
Halloween string lights are cheerful, but cords can be a problem for kittens, who love to chew and bat at dangling things. Keep wires out of reach, tape them down or use covers, and unplug them if you leave the house. Scottish Folds are sweet, quiet cats, and their folded ears come from a gene that can also affect their joints, so these cats need regular vet visits and soft landings. A railing is not a safe perch for a young kitten, especially if she can lean over the edge, so supervise outdoor time and keep her close.
Honey is not interested in the cords. She seems drawn to the glow itself, a warm little universe of sparkles on a cool night. Maybe she imagines that every light is a tiny firefly, and she has the best seat on the porch to watch them twinkle, one after another, as the night comes on.
