A Snow-White Kitten Disappeared Into the Leaf Pile, Almost

AI imagepersian kittenhalloweenfall leaves

Orange maple leaves are heaped across the porch like a crunchy blanket, and a tiny white Persian kitten is right in the middle, one front paw reaching and her body low, as if the pile is about to attack. Her fluffy fur nearly vanishes against the white trim, but her tiny pink nose and wide eyes stand out. Three pumpkins glow on the right, and a canvas bag and a pair of shoes rest by the door.

Kittens are natural pouncers, and leaves are great toys because they move, crackle and hide things. Leaf piles are fine for play, but check for what might be hiding in them: damp leaves can grow mold, and sharp twigs, burrs or acorns may be tucked inside. Persian fur tangles easily, so a gentle brushing after playing outside keeps the coat from matting. Their flat faces can also make them a little more delicate, so keep play calm and away from hot weather. Always keep an eye on a kitten outdoors, and if she eats leaves or pokes around the yard, talk to your vet.

Snowdrift, as the porch might call her, is having the best time. Every rustle is a new reason to pounce, and every pumpkin is a mountain to explore. The leaves will be scattered again by evening, and she will not mind a bit.
