After Dinner, the Quietest Guest Slept Beside the Glowing Fire
After the long dinner, the house has gone quiet, and a gray Devon Rex kitten is asleep on an orange and cream plaid blanket in front of the fireplace. Her paws are tucked in, her ears are folded back, and her curly coat has a soft sheen. A few logs are stacked beside the hearth and embers glow in the grate, while a bright window shows a peaceful afternoon outside.
Devon Rex cats have a very fine coat and tend to be heat seekers, so a warm spot by the fire is a natural choice. Warm spots are good for naps, but a hearth needs rules. Keep a sturdy screen in front of an open fire, so no stray spark or curious paw reaches the flame, and make sure the cat's blanket is far enough from the heat so it cannot catch. Never leave a cat unsupervised near a lit fireplace. Sleep matters for kittens, who may sleep most of the day as they grow, so a quiet, safe, warm nap spot is a real gift. If she curls up somewhere new, make sure the room is not too hot and she has water nearby.
Cats love the combination of soft textiles and gentle warmth, which is why a blanket near the fire is hard to beat.
The only sound is probably a faint kitten snore.
