The Pizza Was Gone, and the Beagle Was Sitting Right on the Box
A red and white Beagle sits on the flattened lid of a pizza box with his head turned to the side and his long ears drooping. The box is empty, with a few crumbs left behind, and a pair of jeans, socks and a rubber duck sit nearby on a sunlit floor. His eyes look soft, a bit worried and quite full. The pizza is long gone.
Beagles are friendly, merry hounds with an incredible sense of smell, and they will track food through a whole house. They were bred to hunt in packs, so they tend to be social and love company. Because they love to eat, Beagles can gain weight easily, and that makes careful portions and regular exercise important. Pizza has a lot of salt and fat, and toppings like onion and garlic are harmful to dogs, so if he ate a lot, call your vet.
Keeping boxes and leftovers in a closed cabinet or trash bin keeps a Beagle's nose out of trouble. Scent games and puzzle feeders give that nose something fun to do.
He looks as though he has done a full day's work, and he is ready for a nap. The pizza was excellent, from his point of view. Beagles also have a long memory for where good smells came from, so the kitchen will be checked again tomorrow, with great optimism.
