The Black Lab Dug a Very Deep Hole and Wore the Evidence
Damp, dark soil covers the muzzle of a black Labrador, who looks up with deep brown eyes and a hopeful, slightly worried expression. Behind him lies a deep, freshly dug hole in the garden, with clumps of soil piled at its edges. Green plants and a wooden fence stand quietly in the back, in the light of a bright morning. The dig site is clearly his.
Labrador Retrievers are friendly, loyal dogs with a lot of energy, and many are enthusiastic diggers. Digging can come from boredom, from the instinct to bury treasures, or from a wish to cool off in the dirt on a hot day. A Lab does best with long walks, swimming, fetch and training games. Giving him a designated spot, such as a sandbox with a few toys buried inside, can turn a destructive hobby into a good one.
Garden supplies like fertilizers, snail bait and some mulches can be dangerous to dogs, so call your vet if he ate anything unusual. A quick wipe of the paws and muzzle also helps keep the house clean.
He appears to be waiting for a verdict. The garden has a new feature, and he seems quite proud of his work. Labs are famous for their forgiving, wiggly joy, so a hose-down and a belly rub will likely follow soon.
