A Golden Retriever Took the Clean Laundry as His New Bed
Fluffy towels and shirts spill over the edges of a wicker basket, and sitting right in the middle is a golden Retriever with a calm, expectant expression. Clean clothes lie around him on the floor, in a hall with slippers, a plant and a backpack nearby. His fur matches the warm tone of the wicker. He looks as though he has been placed there on purpose.
Golden Retrievers are gentle, friendly dogs who love to be close to their people, and the smell of freshly washed clothes is very comforting to them. Dogs like to make nests by circling, digging and arranging soft things, which is an old instinct. A bed of their own near the family can help, and some owners leave a worn t-shirt in it to add a familiar scent.
Dogs may also chew on laundry, and socks, underwear and other fabric can cause serious blockages if swallowed, so keep an eye on missing items and call your vet if one goes missing. Closing the laundry room door or using a lidded hamper is a simple solution.
He seems to be saying that the towels were very warm, and so was the spot. Folding the laundry will have to wait until the new tenant is ready to move. Retrievers like to be useful, so he might even carry a towel back to the shelf when asked politely.
