The Boxer Sat on the Counter Like He Owned the Bread
A brindle Boxer sits tall on the kitchen counter with a serious, slightly worried expression, his ears folded and dark eyes watching the camera. Next to him sits a round loaf of crusty bread with a big hole bitten out of one side, and crumbs are sprinkled across the counter. A towel, a bottle and a plant sit behind him. It is a big dog in a small place.
Boxers are playful, energetic dogs with a goofy side and a big heart. They love people, they stay puppyish for years, and they need plenty of exercise and play. They are also tall and athletic, which makes counter surfing easy. Plain baked bread is not a danger in small amounts, but raw dough is, because it can swell in the stomach, and some breads contain raisins or nuts that are harmful to dogs. Call your vet if he ate more than a bite.
Teaching an off command and rewarding four paws on the floor helps. Keeping bread in a bread box makes the kitchen less tempting.
He holds his position like a guard on duty, though the loaf has clearly seen better days. The crust must have been very good. Boxers also love to be part of every project, so expect him to supervise the next loaf from a safe distance, hopefully on the floor. A good run and a chew toy before dinner can help use up all that energy.
