The Pug Stared Straight Ahead Surrounded by Potato Chips
Large, round eyes stare at the viewer from a wrinkled black face. The fawn Pug sits in the center of the floor, surrounded by golden potato chips that have spilled from a torn foil bag. Crumbs cover the boards, a basket sits against the wall, and a sock lies near the doorway. He has frozen as if he thinks that holding still will make everything go away.
Pugs are charming, sociable dogs with big personalities and bigger appetites. They are affectionate and playful, and many are very food-driven, which makes weight management important. Chips are salty and greasy, and in a small dog a big snack can cause an upset stomach or worse, so call your vet if he ate a lot. Seasonings like onion or garlic powder can also be harmful.
Pugs have short noses, so they can overheat and get out of breath quickly, and gentle play beats long hard exercise. Keeping snack bags in a cupboard saves a lot of trouble. Pugs make a very good show of sadness, and he has the eyes for it. After a short nap and a long drink of water, he will probably be right back to his cheerful, snorting self.
The eyes are so round that you almost forget about the chips. He looks innocent, a bit shocked and very full. A broom will clear the chips, but the memory of those eyes will linger. Perhaps next time the bag will go on the shelf.
