A Tuxedo Cat Sits Innocently in a Drift of Couch Stuffing
The couch has been torn open at the corner, and a drift of white stuffing covers the carpet around the tuxedo cat sitting in the middle. His amber eyes are turned up with a soft, innocent look, and his white chin and chest are bright against his dark fur. The grey couch behind him hangs in tatters, and a few small tufts of stuffing have caught on his whiskers.
Scratching is a normal and healthy behavior for cats. It keeps claws in good shape, stretches the muscles, and leaves scent marks from glands in the paws. When a couch is the only good scratching surface in the room, it often takes the damage. Giving your cat a tall, sturdy scratching post near the furniture he likes, with the same kind of texture, can help, and a little catnip or a treat can make it more appealing. Stuffing can cause stomach trouble if swallowed, so talk to your vet if you think your cat ate some. Tuxedo cats are not a breed but a coat pattern, and they come in many personalities, though many are loved for being friendly and funny.
He looks so sweet that it is hard to be angry. The couch will have to be repaired, but he has already moved on. A new scratching post is probably on its way.
