The Pillow Fight Was One-Sided, and the Havanese Won It
Feathers drift through the air like a small snowstorm, and the cream Havanese sits right at the center of an exploded pillow, ears flopping and eyes wide. Her scruffy coat is dotted with tiny white feathers, and the pillowcase lies in ragged pieces around her. In the background, a gray sofa, a toy basket, and a pair of slippers watch quietly.
Havanese are cheerful, social little dogs who love to be part of everything, including the stuffing-and-feather business. They were bred as companion animals, so they dislike being left alone for long and may turn to chewing when lonely or bored. A safe stuffed toy, a puzzle treat, and some company before leaving the house can help. Feathers and filling can upset a dog's stomach or cause a blockage if swallowed, so call your vet if you are concerned about how much was eaten.
We will call her Marshmallow. She has not moved since the pillow gave way, and she looks as though she is waiting for the feathers to land. Perhaps she hopes they will stay in the air a little longer and make the evidence disappear. They will not, but they certainly make a pretty picture, and she has the perfect face for it. It is the sort of quiet, fluffy moment that takes a very long time to sweep up and a very short time to forgive.
